Sexual Harassment

This program provides an overview of how to reduce the risks of contracting infectious diseases of all types, with an emphasis on sexually transmitted diseases. Major STDs such as HIV and other infectious diseases are profiled, outlining their risk factors and describing their symptoms. The body's natural defense mechanisms, including the immune system, the skin, mucous membranes, and enzymes, and medical interventions such as vaccines are discussed. (29 minutes)

This engaging video presentation uses the format of a call-in radio show for teens to discuss sexual harassment. Teens need to understand this growing problem, not just in the adult world, but in their own world as well. Sexual harassment is defined, discussed in several different possible situations, and a plan for dealing with sexual harassment is explained. Sexting is a combination of sex and text messaging. Junior High and High School students demonstrate the threat of “sexted” sexually explicit or suggestive photographs, messages and videos. Real life scenarios are presented along with the resulting consequences affecting a teenager’s personal, social and future life. Follow students through a variety of sexting situations stemming from careless fun to cyberbullying along with their painful effects.

Grade Level: 7-12. It is estimated that four out of five teenagers experience sexual harassment at school. Many harassers see their behavior as nothing more than harmless teasing. Often, victims of sexual harassment feel powerless and don't know what they can do to protect themselves. Many bystanders, who watch silently or laugh, don't understand the part they play in perpetuating this behavior and the responsibility they have to stop it. Under the direction of experts in the field, a group of teens — including those who have experienced sexual harassment — discuss the reality of life in high school today: how to tell the difference between unwanted attention and flirting, the influence of the media, what victims and bystanders can do, and the importance of reporting sexual harassment when it happens.

Grade Level 7-12. Any type of harassment is difficult to cope with, but sexual harassment in particular is not only devastating, but illegal as well. Being a teenager is difficult enough. Try being a parent at the same time! This program follows the stories of three young women with unplanned pregnancies-15-year-old Valerie, 17-year-old Karina, and 18-year-old Sara. The program also presents another couple, Amanda and Tomas, who have chosen abstinence. In three segments, the teens are interviewed over the course of their pregnancies and after they have become mothers. In this emotional roller-coaster, labor might be the least of their difficulties as Karina and Sara's boyfriends eventually walk out, Sara decides to put her baby up for adoption, and none of the young women return to school.
