Sexting Educational VideoSexting is the sharing of sexual pictures, videos and messages via a text message. The act has become an epidemic in America and has caused a myriad of privacy, psychological and legal issues. Sexting can lead to private pictures getting posted on pornographic websites or social networking sites. The act can also get the student in trouble for sexual harassment or other deeper legal issues such as distributing pornographic images of a minor. Sexting prevention education should be part of every schools curriculum.

While sexting might occur between two consenting minors who are in a romantic relationship, both parties need to understand that romance doesn't always last forever - especially in high school. Once a couple breaks up, the sexual pictures could be used as retaliation for the breakup or simply for the amusement of one of the parties. Not only will this be humiliating for the child who has sexually images disseminated against his or her wishes, but the images could also fall into the hands of a pornographer who might put them onto a pornographic website. The child's mistake could haunt them for many decades to come. Teenagers need to understand that a picture sent by text could last forever. Once it leaves their hands then they have lost control of the image and the fate of the picture is no longer in their hands.

Social networking sites are another concern when it comes to sexting. Not only can the be picture be shared with the offender's friends and maybe a pornographic website, but the picture could make it onto a social networking site where it can be sent rapidly to thousands of people. The teens reputation could be ruined in a matter of minutes. This type of harassment falls into the realm of cyberbullying.

Law enforcement has begun to enforce child pornography laws when it come to sexting. The teens who take the pictures and distribute them without permission are getting in trouble, but so are the original senders of the pictures. The pictures in a sext could literally get the teen who took them into legal trouble for dissemination of child pornography. As crazy as it sounds, this type of legal intervention has started to become common place around the country.

Sexting has also found its way into the world of sexual harassment. Perpetrators now use sexually-based text messages to harass their victims. This type of harassment has become common in high school where sexual harassment is a serious problem.

However, you slice it sexting leads to big trouble. The sharing of sexual pictures, videos and messages via cell phone is a behavior that should be prevented among all students. The results of these types of messages can be devastating for all parties involved.
